At some point in our lives, we all start asking life’s big questions. It could happen as we get older and reach an age milestone or because of a health scare. It could happen after a tragic accident and brush with death or after the death of someone close to us. Regardless of why it happens, we all eventually start asking life’s big questions.
Asking these questions is a normal part of life. These questions come in many different versions of, “Why am I here?” and “What is the purpose or meaning of my life?” The underlying questions many think about but don’t always ask are, “Is there a God?” and “What happens when I die?”
People avoid these questions because they fear the answer may require a change in their behavior. These folks are mostly happy with the lifestyle they’ve created, so they do not want it disturbed. But deep down they know something is missing—their happiness is not complete. There is a void.
The Bible says that God “has also set eternity in the human heart” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). This verse means it is normal for us to search for meaning in our lives because our Creator put that instinct and desire in us.
The Bible has a lot to say about life’s big questions, from our creation and purpose to our salvation and eternal life. The Bible provides answers to the questions that trouble our hearts, such as: Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? Is there a God? Is this life all there is? And the biggest question of all: What happens after I die? We should investigate what the Bible says about these questions.
The Bible reveals what we already know in our hearts—that we all need salvation. Intuitively, we know we have a Creator and that he created us for a relationship with him. We have a longing deep in our soul for this relationship. We know we have sinned and that our sins have separated us from God. Therefore, we need salvation. The Bible says it offers the only path to salvation for humankind, and that path is unique.
The Bible answers life’s biggest questions. The Bible reveals the salvation provided to us by Jesus Christ through his gospel. Jesus promises abundant life on earth and the peace of eternal life after death.
